Poem Two - 30/30 for National Poetry Month

in
the land of snow
sun children
lose their names

Winter storms froze the streets
Parent's came from their jobs dead on their feet
To claim their children and take them home
To be safe from the icy cold

Parent's came from their jobs dead on their feet
All the traffic had frozen fast in the streets
To be safe from the icy cold
Guadalupe worried for her mother to appear

All the traffic had frozen fast in the streets
Standing in her red snow suit waiting
Guadalupe worried for her mother to appear
Teacher called out the names of all her classmates

Standing in her red snow suit waiting
Daydreaming of snow angels and sledding
Teacher called out the names of all her classmates
She hadn't yet learned the new name she'd been given

Daydreaming of snow angels and sledding
Finally she heard mama call out her baby name - India!
She hadn't learned the new name teacher had given her
Something hard and cold like the snowballs brother threw

Finally she heard mama call out her baby name - India!
And she awoke from her icy dreams
Something hard and cold like the snowballs brother threw
Winter storms froze the streets
