Poem 10 - 30/30

And the band played on...

They were only supposed to play five songs on that last day of your wake
And the accordion player must of had more than a few tequilas that mornin
Because the conjunto got lost, and were feeling very guilty for being so late
That they didn't stop playing, even when your wife tried to jump into your coffin

And the accordion player must of had more than a few tequilas that mornin
Pulled out their saddest songs, about being in love, cheating, death, and loss
They didn't stop playing, even when your wife tried to jump into your coffin
A fight broke out in the back because someone tried to steal your favorite cross

Playing their saddest songs, about being in love, cheating, death and loss
The whole hall was wailing for you, and because they all knew the feeling
A fight broke out in the back because someone tried to steal your favorite cross
Turned out it was your wife's crucifix that hung above the bed right up near the ceiling

The whole hall was wailing for you, and because they all knew the feeling
Of having loved and lost, being cheated on and tossed out like last week's news
Turned out it was your wife's crucifix that hung above the bed right up near the ceiling
The band played late into the night, when it was time to go they started in on the blues

Of having loved and lost, being cheated on and tossed out like last week's news
Was nothing you'd ever worried about, for you, women were a piece of honey cake
The band played late into the night, when it was time to go they started in on the blues
They were only supposed to play five songs, on that last day of your wake

note: thanx GCL for making me think of wakes, funerals and what a roller coaster ride they can be... and why I dislike them so intensely lol! besides the fact that someone you liked/loved enough to go honor at such an event is gone on to the spirit world.
